Berry & avocado smoothie
Here’s a simple smoothie recipe that my whole family enjoys. Whenever we have a delicious but slightly less nutritious breakfast, like toast or pancakes, I like to throw together a quick smoothie to share. Starting the day with berries, greens, seeds, avocado, and spices sets us off on the right foot.
My toddler has started talking, and his most-used word at the moment is ‘MORE.’ This smoothie gets his ‘MORE’ of approval every time. We’re hoping his love for fruit and greens carries on for as long as possible!
Smoothies are also a great choice for taking on a walk—just store them in a flask and enjoy a burst of energy and hydration in one go.
I make sure to keep my freezer stocked with organic berries as they’re often cheaper than fresh fruit, available year-round, and don’t spoil as quickly. I also add my Seed mix for an extra boost of whole food goodness.
Use this recipe as a template for your own smoothie creations. Switch things up to add variety to your diet! Swap the mixed seeds for any nuts or seeds you have, use any fresh or frozen berries and greens, and try any type of plant-based milk. Peanut butter, or any other nut butter, can be used instead of avocado.

Ingredients
- 1 cup mixed frozen berries
- 1/4 cup frozen spinach
- 1 cup oat milk
- 1 cup water
- 1 tbsp mixed seeds
- 1/2 avocado
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
Instructions
- Combine the frozen berries, frozen spinach, oat milk, water, mixed seeds, avocado, and cinnamon in a blender.
- Blend until smooth. Add a splash of water if you prefer a thinner smoothie.
Tips
Make it ahead: A great time-saving tip is to prepare individual portions (minus the liquids) and store them in small bags in the freezer. When you’re ready to make a smoothie, simply grab a bag, add oat milk and water, and blend until smooth. This is an excellent idea for postpartum meal prep, ensuring you have a nutritious and hydrating snack on hand at all times.
Store the spare avocado half: Slice the avocado in half lengthways and store the half with the pit in the fridge. This helps keep it fresher for longer, and it’s easy to grab for a quick slice of avocado on toast later in the day.
Flavour variations: This is just one example of an easy and delicious smoothie, but the variations are endless. I’ve found that keeping the ratio of frozen berries and greens to liquid consistent ensures the smoothie isn’t too thick or too watery. But if it’s not quite right, just add more liquid or frozen ingredients. Have fun experimenting!
Flask Tip: Storing smoothies in a flask is a great way to keep them fresh and portable, so you don’t have to miss out on hydration while out and about.
